ROMUVOS is a one-man Epic Pagan Folk metal band from Lithuania. "Romuvan Dainas" is the debut album of Velnias, who was born in Lithuania and now resides in Israel. This album was released by the German label No Colours Records in the end of April 2014.
I like so much opener "Under the Glaciers of the Baltjos" which is in a calmer climate and has many Melodic Folk sounds with vocals in a melodic deeply stronger way. Such a memorable Viking Metal track. Singer Velnias has really nice, warm and deep voice which wonderful sounds in tracks like "Eglė - the Queen of Serpents" together with harmony and flute, or in "Poems for the Dead" together with calmer guitar and piano.
The album speaks about the pagan traditions of the Lithuanians and Baltic peoples. All lyrics are in English, only the closing track is in Lithuanian. Acoustic guitars with Folkish choir in "Thy Glory and Might Thus We Shall Stand" create a very nice epic climate, also are hear able Doom influences (SATURNUS) and sometimes the choir in the singing sounds like Viking style, but calmer. Also "Beyond the Gates of Ouroboros" has fine atmosphere with listenable hurdy-gudy from a distance and a calmer, slower style. The only one track in Lithuanian language is "Romuvos Dainas" and with amazing deep vocal stylised on Viking choir and slowly rate, harmony and accordion create really fantastic atmosphere. I'm so nicely surprised by the whole album. I will add that it is their debut album. Debut, but with a lot of experience, high level, and new, great ideas.
ROMUVOS create the perfect Pagan Folk Metal. All songs from this LP are perfectly well-worked and highly recommend. I believe in talented Velnias, and I am sure that in the future his music will be well-known everywhere.
